The goal in our Surfing program is to have our students riding waves and to provide them with a holistic education of what it means to be a surfer. The course is built around four surfing principles to lay the groundwork for a lifetime full of waves:
Even though we offer surfing in the fall and spring, we do not surf every day. The ocean is a variable environment, and many days are not suitable for surfing. If we are on campus, students train for the ocean with fitness activities to become better surfers. We also spend time in the classroom learning about the surf break etiquette, current surf culture, the history of surfing and board design, and wave dynamics.

“My educational philosophy is closely aligned with Besant Hill School’s motto, ‘Aun Aprendo – I am still learning.’ As an educator, it is a primary responsibility to inspire my students so that they may subscribe to the words of Michelangelo, ‘Grant that I may always aspire to more than I accomplish.’ ”
